Entertainment centres, closets and bars

From entertainment centers to closets and bars, HiQ Cabinets can customize any piece of cabinetry that our clients desire. We pride ourselves with taking the needs of our clients into consideration when designing every nook and cranny of our cabinets.

Built-in work outside the kitchen and bathroom is judged differently. Nobody stands at a bookcase for an hour a day, so the test is not ergonomics but whether the piece looks as though the room was built around it. That means matching the existing joinery language of the house: the width of the architrave, the height of the skirting, the profile of a picture rail, the way a chimney breast returns into an alcove.

An entertainment centre is mostly a ventilation and cable problem wearing a cabinet. Equipment needs air behind and above it, a route for cables that does not require the unit to be pulled out, and shelf spacing that can be changed when the equipment is replaced, which it always is sooner than the cabinet. Doors that fold back flat matter more than doors that look impressive, because a door standing proud of the face is a door that gets left open.

Closets reward the same measured approach as a kitchen: hanging heights set by what actually hangs there, shelves shallow enough to see to the back, and drawers rather than deep shelves for anything folded. A run of adjustable uprights costs little and lets the interior change as the household does.

Bars sit between furniture and cabinetry. A bar return takes constant knocks at the corner, holds a worktop at a height nothing else in the house uses, and needs bottle and glass storage that does not rattle. A solid edge, a properly braced return panel and a deliberate foot detail are what separate a bar that lasts from one that loosens in a season.
